23rd Annual Thunder Over Louisville



Thunder Over Louisville has been rated as one of the top 100 events in North America, and I'm proud to say that it takes place right here in my home town.  If you've never been to Thunder, it's always a great event for the entire family.  There's a huge celebration on Waterfront Park with food, music, one of the top 5 airshows in the nation, and of course the most incredible fireworks show I have ever seen.  On today's show I mentioned several things you need to know if you plan to go to the Waterfront for today's show.  Here's a recap:

Admission: 
FREE, but you do need a 2012 Pegasus pin for entrance to North Waterfront park and the Chow Wagon.  They are $5.00 and good for all of the Kentucky Derby Festival Events including 88.5 WJIE's Celebration Sunday Concert featuring Building 429, Chris Sligh, and Jonny Diaz.



Schedule:
North Great Lawn at Waterfront Park Opens: 9:00 am
Air Show Starts: 2:30 pm - 9:30 pm (2 different starting times on website)
Chow Wagon Opens: 3:00 pm
Fireworks: 9:30 pm – 10:00 pm



CANNOT Bring:
Tents/Canopies and Cannot rope off areas
No glass bottles; only plastic
No Grills
No bikes, skateboards, or skates (Bike Valet is available)
No pets

No overnight camping

CAN Bring:
Food/drinks in plastic containers, but vending will be available as well
Picnic blankets or tarps are limited to 10ft x 10ft
Lawn Chairs

DON’T FORGET:
Pegasus Pin for admission to North Waterfront/Chow Wagon
Dress in layers. 
Bring Blankets, jackets (The Waterfront gets chilly)
Earplugs are a good idea for little ones
Make sure plenty of gasoline in your car; post-Thunder Traffic is typically heavy.
Toiletries (TP, Hand Sanitizer, etc)  The on-site facilities can run out early in the day.
Your radio!  Bring 88.5 WJIE with you as you celebrate today.  


SAFETY TIPS (Please Read)
An average of 500,000 people attend Thunder Over Louisville, make sure that you take the following precautions:
  • Parents carry a photo of your kiddos, and write down or memorize what they are wearing.
  • Make sure your children know to find a police officer if they become temporarily separated from you, and that they know your phone number/address.
  • Identify a location to regroup in case you become separated from someone in your party.
  • Be aware of the services around you: EMS, Lost Children, General First Aid
  • If you will be boating, here's a list of Boat Safety Guidelines especially for Thunder Over Louisville


PARKING DETAILS:
Post-Thunder Traffic is usually super heavy, it is recommended that you park as far away from the event venue as you can comfortably walk.
